Weekly Sports Round-Up

By: Bailey Gardecki

Hello valued readers,

I hope everyone is having a great week here at Concordia.

In case you missed out on a few games these past few weekends here is a bit of a recap. Our men’s soccer team is doing great this season, with wins against Keyano Huskies, Grant MacEwan, and King’s College. On Saturday, September 15th they played a tough game against NAIT, unfortunately the Ooks took the game with their single goal. The women’s team did just as well with four wins and only one loss to NAIT to date. Both teams play this weekend, the 29th and 30th, details can be found on the ACAC website. http://www.acac.ab.ca/pages/soccer-womens.php .

And We’re Off To The Races

By: Bailey Gardecki

Hello Concordians

Hope you have all had a great summer because now the tough stuff begins!

Concordia was super busy last week with all the orientation awesomeness—anyone who saw the pictures on facebook could tell it was a great time. As part of the orientation week there were many students who attended the Eskimos game.

If you didn’t know already, our VP External of the CSA (Concordia Student Association) has arranged for the school to have tickets to almost all the home games. Seating is in College Corner and tickets are available in the Bookstore for $22. I heard from our VP External that we sold at least 70 out of 100 tickets, and for those of you who attended Fridays Eskimos game I am sure you would agree that it was quite the game. Eskimos played a great game, and even though they lost it in the end, we had Calgary on the run! Stupid field goal kick! We will get them next time. Unless of course you’re a Calgary Stamps fan in which case … awesome! We Won!

Athletics - Coach Sir Provides Preview of 2011-12 Thunder Men’s Basketball Team

The Concordia Thunder enter the 2011-2012 season with a combination of experience and youth as they prepare for what will be a very tough ACAC North league. Lakeland has re-loaded with a new group of very athletic players. NAIT has a new coach and have been aggressively recruiting players. Grant MacEwan’s new coach has assembled a very talented backcourt. Keyano has size, quickness and excellent guard play. Augustana and Kings are always a challenge. The Thunder will have to be ready every night they step on the court.
