As I arrive I notice the newness of the station by Kingsway Mall, it even has the caution tape up like it’s still under construction or something, the city should really be aware of this, it seems to be turning people away as I’m the only person here.
It’s been fifteen minutes and the train has not yet arrived. I’m also still alone, which I find odd at one in the afternoon. The anticipation is really getting to me, I figure so many people are taking this new line that it’s making the train run slower. It must be one hell of a ride!
1:15PM - Another fifteen minutes and still no train. I’m running out of water and didn’t bring any form of nourishment as I thought this would be a quick trip. I guess I’ll have to start conserving the remain water I have.
1:45PM - Out of water. I was really thirsty, what can I say? Still no train, but another person has shown up. He has a large trench coat and an unkempt beard that has many small bits of indistinguishable objects in it. This new man gives me hope that the train will soon come.
2:30PM - I’m growing hungry and thirsty. The Target at Kingsway is looking mighty appealing as it is filled with food, liquid, and warmth. I also have to pee, curse my vast consumption of liquid.
2:40PM - My waiting companion has introduced himself as Bobo.an out of work clown who now provides his entertainment to unknown passersby. Has he see my distress? He offered me something from his beard, but I refused politely, although there was a crumb of something that looked like toffee.
2:55PM - Bobo clearly had the same bladder issue as me as he is now relieving himself against a nearby wall. I wish I had the gumption to do the same as I’m getting more and more desperate. Why are we being put through this unending torture? Where is this train?
3:14PM - I’ve talked it over with Bobo, we’ve decided that I will leave for Kingsway for provisions and of course a bladder break. If the train comes while I’m gone Bobo will make sure it does not leave without me by distracting the driver with his amazing sleight of hand tricks.
3:16PM - I have fallen and twisted my ankle while leaving the station. Thankfully Bobo was on watch and came to fetch me. I’m now on a bench, hungry and cold, but thankfully not alone.
3:55PM - My ankle is better, still no train. Bobo has set up lodgings for us using tools and materials found in the station. He is resourceful and am glad he is my ally.4:05PM - So much time has passed and I must learn to adapt to my new life here at the station. I worked up the courage and relieved myself much like Bobo did before, but in a more private area. Leaving is no longer an option, I will not miss this train.
4:25PM - More people have arrived. They are keeping their distance from us, we seem to have claimed this territory. Bobo and I are working out a sleeping schedule now so we can keep watch if the train does not come before it is time to rest.
4:40PM - The newcomers are on their cellphones now; are they calling in reinforcements? They still won’t approach us and I’m attempting to come up with a way of opening a dialogue between our two tribes. I hope this does not end in war.
5:00PM - I attempted first contact with the new Trainwaiters (That is why I have decided to call us). Unfortunately they ran from me as I approached, again reaching for their phones, dialing quickly.
6:00PM - Still no train. I’ve begun hunting and foraging for food and water in the past hour. The sun is low and I’m beginning to worry about the oncoming night.
7:00PM - Night is upon us and I am on first watch. Still no train. I’m actually starting to doubt that it is going to come at all, but that may be the weird thing I ate for dinner talking. The other people haven’t come back and I’m starting to miss society. I cannot abandon my post though, Bobo is counting on me.
Day 5 - We have established a perimeter, the outsiders attempted an attack the other night with flashing lights and men in some form of uniform. At one point yellow men with hoses appeared. We’ve held fast through the Battle of Four days.
Day 24 - Bobo’s friends have come from far and wide to join our establishment. The station is now ours, but we won’t touch the station proper as we don’t want people to not send the thing that it is we are waiting for. It’s been so long I don’t really remember what it even is we were waiting for…
Day 56 - While I have grown fond of the Trainwaiter people I believe it is time for me to make my mark on the world and leave the tribe that I have helped build. I’m leaving Bobo in charge, he’s taken up clowning again which is nice, but I know he’ll make a fine leader for my people. Looking back through my entries I enjoy reminiscing about the simpler times of my life when all we were doing was waiting for a train. Maybe that’s all it was, a symbol of hope in the darkness of the station. Or maybe one day the train will come, only time will tell, time without me here.
