MEET NICK - EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Welcome to our new students and welcome back to those returning for whatever year you're entering. My name is Nicholas Chevalier and I am the Editor-in-Chief of this publication and returning for my second year as Captain of the paper. I'm in my fifth year here at Concordia; having graduated with an English Degree and in my second year of the Education After-degree Program. I've worn a lot of hats in my time here and met some amazingly awesome people. I've volunteered as a student ambassador, helped out with marketing videos and radio spots, worked on the paper, and started a website with someone I met during my orientation all those years ago; all while being a student.
My team and I work hard to put a paper together that people will enjoy and we always appreciate input from all our readers. On top of that if you'd like to submit a story for our paper feel free to email it in. If we publish your work you not only have your work published, but you'll be awarded with your choice of a gift card to a variety of stores!
Don't forget to like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter, our paper only comes out every two weeks and the best way to stay up to date with the events and goings on around the school is to follow us and the CSA on our social media pages. We don't want you missing out on free pancakes and I'm sure you don't want to miss that either. We're also doing a ton of giveaways this year and the easiest way to stay on top of those is, again, through social media. Want to win movies? Passes to events and locations? Free tickets to school events? Then make sure you're reading our publication and watching our website/social media.
Our first contest is actually underway right now! You can win Bolt, the Disney animated film, from The Bolt! The Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Combo is available to you and all you have to do is enter our "Selfie with Bolt" contest. Find a large printout of Bolt, the dog, somewhere on campus (hint: there is one outside our office) and take your picture with him. Then send the picture into The Bolt through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or email.
MEET MIRANDA - STORY EDITOR
In addition to my post at the Bolt I am also a member of the Model United Nations Club and in my first year of the Education After Degree program. I finished my first degree last year through Concordia which was a Bachelor of Arts. I was a history major and education minor but I am also quite interested in English and Political Science.
I am also an avid NFL fan! So please please please stop by the Bolt office to talk about football with me because the other editors sometimes stifle my athletic interests and I'm SO excited for this upcoming season. I am a Steelers and Patriots fan so if you are rocking their gear I will go out of my way to chat with you.
Some other interesting facts about me include, but are not limited to: my favorite color is pink, I am terrified of most primates, leather is my spirit animal, I am currently reading the fourth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones for all of you that haven’t bothered to read the books), my future husband is Tom Brady but I’m having a love affair with Troy Polomalu, I voted for Don Iveson, I am a proud supporter of the Edmonton Public Library, if I eat shrimp I will go into anaphylactic shock, I keep floss in the Bolt office just incase, I get my nails done regularly, I went to Vancouver twice this summer and I’m heading to Rome in November (fingers crossed for Model UN fundraising), I went to Sonic Boom this year and it was my first music festival, I’m a Slytherin, I have a shocking amount of cookie cutters (over fifty) for someone who is pretty bad at baking, I try to go on as many adventures as possible, and I am still waiting for Angelina and Brad to adopt me.
If you want to learn more about me or chat about any of my quirks, feel free stop by the office and hang out! I am always looking for some new friends (or writers!)
MEET JONATHAN - LAYOUT EDITOR
To answer your first question, we at The Bolt, pondered another question; how can we save the world? The answer: one page at a time. So we looked to a paper company in the UK called Ryman. Who recently launched its campaign to create “the world’s most beautiful and sustainable font.” Naturally, we hopped right on board. This font, called Ryman Eco, uses up to a third of the ink of regular fonts which has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by 6.5 million tons, every single year. So feel good about the paper you’re holding, and the words you’re reading for they are sustainable! Isn’t typography exciting?! You too can help save the world one page at a time by downloading Ryman Eco for yourself at rymaneco.co.uk and using it for everything you print.
As for my picture, well, my writers still need to come by the office to get their beautiful faces captured in my soul-stealing magic box, so until next issue, I left them out. Creeping me on Facebook will have to suffice.
Have a great year, Concordia!
