The range of films was incredible - from bloody horror to suspense, to fantasy and comedy. Wine Tasting with Lyle and The Rhino, directed by Andrew Paul, was a hilarious crowd pleaser where two complete idiots attempted a wine tasting tutorial. Another funny crowd favorite was The Lies We Tell, directed by Samantha Slater. It followed a young woman and all the little white lies she told on a daily basis. Sally Poulsen directed a unique and witty film, Startups, where a bunch of small business owners took a low budget business course. Competing to win a start-up cash prize, this colorful cast of characters kept the audience chuckling.
At the end of the night, everyone was asked to vote for their favorite short film. Family, directed by Jason Jeffery, in all of its gory and shocking glory, took home the grand prize of $100. Family opens at the house of a recently widowed grandma who is surrounded by her friends and family. The grandma’s family attempts to comfort her by spending more time with her, but little did they know the gruesome aftermath that would occur. Family was elegantly executed and easily won over the admiration of the audience.
