Concordia Thunder: Women’s Soccer

By: Denae Michie

This week we see an exciting end to Concordia Thunder Women’s Soccer season. With a season of great successes, the team has finished top of the North Division clinching a playoff spot to compete for a provincial championship title. The anticipation of the event has been heightened by the team's remarkable seven-game win streak– a testament to their unwavering determination and skill on the field. Throughout their twelve-game season, the team has won eleven out of twelve games, with one resulting in a draw. Remarkably, the team has broken last year's (2022-2023) record of three goals against in the regular season, with only conceding twice throughout all twelve games in the 2023-2024 season. The team's impressive defensive capabilities have been an essential part of their game, denying any momentum an opponent may gather. As the team faces worthy opponents such as the SAIT Trojans and the Lethbridge Kodiaks, this prowess will be challenged as competitors push for the gold medal. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown, and Thunder fans eagerly await to witness if the team can maintain their stance and emerge victorious in pursuit of championship glory.

Provincial championships will be a four-day event starting on October 25th, 2023. Game day action will start with two quarter-finals on October 26th, 2023, followed by semi-finals on October 27th, 2023 for both the men's and women's teams. The ACAC bronze and gold medal matches will be held on October 28th, 2023 at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm respectively. Your Concordia Thunder will begin gameplay on October 27th, 2023. More information will be provided to students through the ACAC website and the Cue Athletics Instagram page.
